Creating lesson plans ahead of time keeps work organized for teachers. However, it is essential to develop an effective lesson plan for your students. The 5e lesson plan template provides the best instructions to students with a sequence of activities and lessons.

Read below to learn how to write a lesson plan using this template.

Part 1: What is the 5e Lesson Plan?

5e lesson plan

The 5E model is an inquiry teaching planning tool that gives students a structure to integrate science principles with their own experiences and apply what they've learned to new situations.

Through this technique, students are becoming more aware of their metacognition as a result of being guided rather than lectured by teachers. It also helps them develop their skills and interests in an engaging environment.

The 5e is the five steps followed sequentially for creating lesson plans for effective teaching. This includes engaging, exploring, explaining, elaborating, and evaluating. This allows instructors, especially primary school teachers, to conduct classes open to exploration and experimentation.

These are the roles that the following steps have on the plan:

  • Engage

The first step is to create an environment where children can engage and share their interests and prior knowledge. This is one of the best ways to introduce the lesson. Asking engaging and fun questions help students pay attention and show interest.

Engagement shouldn't be forceful. Teachers can use technology and the internet to involve students in activities around the lesson. For example, you can show a short video on insects and their habitat.

  • Explore

After successfully grabbing students' attention, the next step is to make them explore. Students should experiment with new ideas and put what they've learned into practice. It involves examining a concept before delving into all of the details in the hopes that students may uncover solutions to potential questions.

Students can be divided into teams and taken outside or to a nearby park to list five insects they find to explore more on the topic.

  • Explain

Now it's the teacher's turn to explain what has been done so far. This is the most crucial part, where the teacher discusses the topic in detail. They address the questions of the students raised during earlier activities. This will clear out misconceptions and help students grasp the concepts better.

The teacher can look at the lists of insects that students found and explain why most of them are similar or why they found them in that particular environment.

  • Elaborate

Teachers can expand, deepen, and improve the lesson through elaboration. Students should be given exercises to give the students a deeper insight into the topic. Here the teacher discovers how each student has comprehended the discussion.

If some of the students fall below grade level, teachers can repeat the same exercise or a different one with another teacher's assistance to resolve any misconceptions. Teachers can ask them to retake their insect lists and create creative questions and answers to broaden their knowledge.

  • Evaluate

The last step is to assess the students to discover what they have learned effectively. Quizzes or examinations are commonly used to assess students. Reflection reports, essays, or any other rubric may also be used.

Students may be asked to observe an insect for a week and write a report of their findings according to the rubric.

Part 2: Tips of 5e Lesson Plan Template
